A BBC article reports a court case in Australia where a two time cancer survivor, Yvonne D’Arcy, had brought a case against a US medical research company who had been awarded a patent for the BRCA1 gene after isolating it in the 1990s.
Yvonne won the case and said that she was thrilled with the verdict as it would make it easier for people to be tested for cancer risks.
Ms D’Arcy, who brought the case along with campaigning network Cancer Voices Australia, said it had been “a David and Goliath test”.
“I’m only a little person – but it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.”
Well said Yvonne. A quote to live by.
